Conference Introduction
The 21st Cross-Strait “University Campus” Academic Symposium in 2025 will be held in Shenyang from October 17 to 19. This conference is co-hosted by the World Association of Chinese Architects (WACA) and Shenyang Jianzhu University. Under the theme of “Reflection and Innovation: Value Reconstruction and Practice of the University Campus,” the symposium invites experts and scholars from both sides of the Strait to delve into five key dimensions: the contemporary implications of historical context, technology-driven innovation in spatial paradigms, experimental reshaping of knowledge spaces, cross-boundary symbiosis strategies, and smart campus cognitive revolution. Against the backdrop of profound global transformations, the symposium aims to explore pathways for the transformation of university campuses. Confronting the significant challenges of higher education restructuring and the technological revolution, the conference seeks to establish a public platform for academic debate, fostering deep reflection on history and on future innovation. Participants are encouraged to freely share insights and proposals on re-examining the core values of campuses, cultivating cultural resilience, and creating human-centered spaces, and collectively exploring innovative practices for the sustainable development of Chinese university campuses.
The Cross-Strait “University Campus” Academic Symposium was initiated on December 6, 2001, by Peking University’s Development Planning Department and Taiwan’s Shen Zuhai Architecture and Culture Foundation to celebrate the 90th birthday of Academician Hou Renzhi and launch cross-strait academic dialogue. The forum established a rotational hosting mechanism: three years on the mainland, and one year in Taiwan. After twenty-four years and twenty sessions of continuous development, it has gradually evolved into an enduring academic community bridging the Strait.
